About The Workshop

Botanical printing goes by many names: Eco Printing, Eco Dyeing, Leaf Printing, Contact Printing and Bundle Dyeing.  It is a technique for printing on fabric with the natural dye color present in leaves, flowers, and other plant material. Botanical printing is relatively easy and produces spectacular, unique results. In this one-day workshop, you will learn fabric preparation, plant selection and the use of mordants and modifiers to produce beautiful prints on fabric. Hiking the grounds at Camp 5080, we will gather appropriate materials to explore the alchemy of water, plant materials, heat, and metal and finish our day with beautiful prints on natural fiber fabrics.

Please bring a plain, white or off-white clothing item, like a t-shirt or blouse, or table napkins made of natural fibers (cotton, silk, linen). Polyester and nylon fabrics are petroleum based and will not work in this process. Wash the item with NO detergent before the workshop.

Lunch and snacks provided.

Workshop Fee:  $135

Instructor: Lorraine Nielsen, Shear Bliss/ Four Winds Farm, Crescent Mills, CA
