About The Workshop
Coiling is one of four traditional basket making techniques. The basket is formed using a foundation material coiled into shape and stitched to the previous row. There are many variations in foundation and stitching materials, type of stitch, basket shape and edge details. On Day 1, we will repurpose plastic bags as the foundation material, and wrap and stitch it with waste yarns. On Day 2, we will wrap a paper foundation with fabric scraps. Both result in sturdy, colorful baskets, plus the satisfaction that plastic and waste fabrics are being diverted from the landfill.
Please bring your stash of half used yarn balls, plastic bread bags or produce bags, and fabric remnants (quilters cotton, home decor fabric, old jeans, etc). A small basket could use 50+ bread bags so start saving them now.
Lunch and snacks are provided.
