About The Workshop
Learn the old world, traditional craft of rug braiding. You will learn how to prepare repurposed wool materials, how to make smooth braids that won't become dirt catchers, and how to lace for a flat rug. I am learning this craft from my mother who has made hundreds of rugs. I will be a learner until I, too, have made hundreds of rugs.
Sewing machines are essential for adding new strips. If you have a portable machine, please bring it along. If you need to borrow a machine for the workshop, let us know so we have it ready for you.
Wool fabric to make a small door rug is included. You may want to start building your own stash of recycled wool by scouting your local thrift stores. Info about selecting and preparing material is provided with your workshop confirmation.
The goal of the weekend is to get you started, learn the basic process and create a community of self-sufficient braiders. You will probably get 1 - 2 sq ft of rug completed and go home with the confidence and supplies to finish on your own.
Workshop Fee: $325
